In 2013, photos of the surprised dog were widely distributed online — as a rule, they were accompanied by text like "wow" typed in Comic Sans font. The funny expression of Kabosu's face led photojab to the status of the best meme of that year according to the Know Your Meme website. He got the name Doge due to the incorrect spelling of the English word Dog ("dog").
